So we're almost four months into the year, the days are turning colder and greyer and I'm not sure about you but I'm just feeling a little ... blegh.

That's why I did a little mid-air fist-pump when I stumbled across Dendy's screening of the opening of the 2017 TED Conference next week. For those who don't watch a lot of YouTube, TED is a nonpartisan nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks.
TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics - from science to business to global issues - in more than 110 languages.
I'm a TED obsessive (this talk by futurist Edie Weiner is my all-time favourite) and I reckon a night at the cinema with a collection of inspiring and innovative speakers from all the way over in Vancouver will get me out of my end-of-April rut.
Speakers include Tim Ferris, author of The Four-Hour Work Week, Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, and 22-year-old Garry Kasparov, dubbed the greatest chess player of all time. They'll all go nicely with my mint choc-top, thanks.
TED2017 Opening Event Conference Screening, Dendy Cinemas, Canberra Centre, Wednesday 3 May 2017, 7pm. Tickets and more info at dendy.com.au
