When Harrison Craig won the second series of The Voice in 2013, he hadn't yet been to Las Vegas. But the young swing singer soon made up for that.

"I went to Vegas for the first time in 2014. It was an incredible experience," he says.

When he was young, he says, his mother would play recordings of the music of artists like Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and others who, coincidentally, were headline performers in Las Vegas and he developed a love for the singers and their music that turned into a career.

Having finally made the pilgrimage to Vegas, a place where so many of his idols made or solidified their reputations and a place where, he says, "you can do whatever you want, everything's cool" he began work on an album inspired by it. Kings of Vegas, released late last year, also provides the name for his new tour, which will see him perform at The Playhouse in May.

Craig's third studio album pays homage to artists like Cole, Presley and Sinatra.as well as Tom Jones, Mel Torme,and Frankie Valli, and, backed by stripped-back strings and brass, features Craig's interpretations of classics like Almost Like Being In Love. It follows on from his debut album, More Than A Dream, which achieved platinum status, and his second album, L.O.V.E., which remained in the top 10 charts for six consecutive weeks.

Craig says his concert wil be "dressed up and classy" and will showcase songs from the new album including those above and others such as Danke Schoen by veteran entertainer Wayne Newton - a Las Vegas legend, who, Craig notes, marked his 25,000th show there last year.

"He performs six days a week and has four weeks off a year."

His version of the Rodgers and Hart standard The Lady is a Tramp is inspired by a live Rat Pack recording he heard while in Las Vegas courtesy of a man he met on his visit there.

"I don't think anyone else has heard this version of it before - it was inspiring."

In addition to his album songs there'll be numbers from singers like Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Perry Como and Andy Williams. As well as the old-school songs and performers, he will also be featuring songs by more recent singers who've found success in Las Vegas after making their names elsewhere including Rod Stewart, Elton John and Billy Joel: it seems Las Vegas is forever able to reinvent itself as a draw for topline entertainers from and for all generations as well as being famous for gambling.

Craig, 22, says The Voice was "such an amazing launching pad ... it offered me a career" but he recognised that it was up to him as an artist to make the most of the opportunity after the show ended. He learned as much as he could from his mentor on the show, Seal, with whom he's kept in touch, and worked hard to shape his career and focus on what he wanted to do. And while he's touring, he's also been working on his next project, gathering and writing material for his next album. He's serious about staying in music for the long haul.

"I'm not wanting to be a flash in the pan - I want to do it the right way and bring quality. So many people in a lot of fields bring out quantity rather than quality, that's the sad thing."
