Mr Williams, a passionate foodie who blogs for gourmetgardener.com.au, is a member of Slow Food Canberra and a founder of Canberra City Farm.

He ruminated on gardens, food, sustainability and community building during a "Sunday Session" at Jindii Eco Spa.

The late winter event featured opportunities to taste a range of local produce, including caramelised plum jam, apple jelly, apple and lavender jelly, and honey from Kambah in addition to slow cooked soups to die for.

Mr Williams said that while he came to food from a gardening perspective, it was something that had been important for his whole life.

"We all eat; we all have our own relationship with food," he said. "For mood food is joyful; it is associated with thousands of happy memories. I love it.

"My vision is of a Capital Food Region that takes pride in sustainable, locally grown food that provides a connection with where we live."

Canberra City Farm, which opened its first city garden in Turner last year, was established four years ago.

Mr Williams said plans were in hand to establish a bigger farm, possibly up to four hectares, later this year.

The farms are set up to share techniques that would allow people to grow their own food more effectively and efficiently.

"It is about growing communities," Mr Williams said.
