The environmentally themed Jindii Day Spa in Duffy will be moving to the gardens in January after taking up a lease on an office space in the gardens' main building.

Owner Bianca Prichard and her team of therapists will offer healing rituals, facial treatments and massages.

The gardens are a popular spot for summer weddings and Jindii will also cater for brides with makeup sessions and pre-wedding beauty packages.

Ms Prichard said the move to the gardens had been in the works for two years.

"It's important for us to stand up to our business principles, which is treading lightly on the earth," she said.

The spa uses an Australian indigenous beauty products range, Litya, which includes native ingredients such as ochre mud and wild rosella.

She said the day spa would use materials readily available on the site, such as furniture made using offcuts from trees that had fallen in the gardens, and recycled timber and would invite the outdoors inside.

Ms Prichard said she hoped to offer mindfulness programs and yoga sessions on the education lawn beside the spa. "It's about finding unique, fun and tangible ways for visitors to connect with the Botanic Gardens," she said. "It's certainly unique but that's really what Canberra is yearning for. When we were doing our immediate research into the market, there's nothing like this currently in a botanic garden and a national park."

She has owned a day spa for 11 years, first opening the Floressence Day Spa in Braddon, and then moving to Duffy to open Jindii in a less urban setting.

There will be four double treatment rooms with hydro therapy spas, a room for yoga, and a guest lounge. Ms Prichard hopes to open in mid January.
