Canberra author Mark Henshaw was the winner of the $40,000 Author Fellowship awarded by The Copyright Agency. The announcement was made at the Australian Society of Authors Congress dinner on September 11. Henshaw will use his fellowship to complete his latest novel, The Missing, an existential thriller set in France and Australia.
The inaugural fellowship was targeted specifically at mid- to late-career authors and the judging panel of Brian Johns (chairman), Malcolm Knox and Geordie Williamson was "particularly excited by the extract of the novel for which [Henshaw] is seeking funding". Johns described Henshaw as "a powerful talent we want to survive, nurture and grow".
