Hidden gem? Locale Pizzeria in Deakin. It's my local shop and what I love about Locale is the personal service. The people that work there, they've been hospitality workers for many years and many of them have either worked for one of the cafés that I used to own or in cafés that I supply with coffee. The food is amazing - they obviously brought pizza makers from Italy to help them to make these perfect pizzas. The atmosphere is great – it's small and cozy and myself, my family and my kids like going there weeknights and enjoying really beautiful local culture and amazing fresh ingredients.

Weekend haunt? I'm gonna be biased I'm sorry, it's ONA on the Lawns. I guess working in the coffee industry as a green bean buyer and roaster etc., and working Monday to Friday, on the weekend I really want to relax. So first thing when I wake up on Saturday morning, if I happen to be in Canberra, which hasn't happened very often in the last two years, I want to enjoy coffee as a customer. I prefer sitting on the lawn, ordering couple of filters, couple of black coffees, a few milk-based coffees and just enjoying the flavours and the experience while I'm talking to locals and connecting with them over a cup or two or brunch.

Place to take visitors? I've been really lucky that I've had many visitors from all over the world come to Canberra - my international coffee friends, producers and coffee experts. I like taking them to see Canberra's nature. That's something that I love about this city. We live in a beautiful city that's surrounded by a lot of greenery, beautiful parks, really nice bicycle tracks and picnic areas. So when I bring visitors, I actually don't necessarily want to take them to tourist attractions. I like them to experience Canberra surroundings such as Cotter River. We jump on our bikes and do a lap around Lake Burley Griffin. One of the lookouts I always like is Mount Ainslie and being able to show them what Canberra is all about.

Place to unwind? Arboretum. To me going to the Arboretum is like going to the coffee farms – lots of greenery, lots of different forests and there's something for everyone there. Going there and just relaxing on the lawn and laying down. It's a pretty cool and relaxing place.

Treat? The first thing that crosses my mind is sweets. I'm a big sweet tooth and very often I wake up in the morning, I'm craving for sweets. When I can I try to go to Frugii and have some of his amazing ice cream and when I can I really love the freak shakes from Patissez. Not very often, but when I want to give myself that really, really special treat I love one of their Nutella freak shakes. They might not be healthy, but they are super, super delicious.
