The Taverner Family, cartoonist Geoff Pryor, former chief justice of the ACT Supreme Court Jeffrey Miles, the Jennings Germans, St John's Anglican Church Canberra, and bandmaster and music critic, the late Bill Hoffman are the latest inductees to the ACT Honour Walk, with their plaques in Ainslie Place unveiled on Thursday, recognising their contribution to the city.

Mr Taverner's family managed the Manuka Pool for nearly 60 years, starting with his dad Owen in 1955 and ending with his own retirement in 2012.

"It's an understatement to say, 'I'm proud as punch'. My parents certainly would be," he said of their inclusion on the walk.

"There's several of my heroes here and it's such an honour."

When asked about possible plans for development around the Manuka Pool by the GWS Giants and developer Grocon, Mr Taverner was clear that land near the landmark should not be encroached, for fear of destroying the village feel around Manuka.

"I'm saddened, already, just by the suggestion of what's going on," Mr Taverner said.

"I honestly believe they should restore the corner where Canberra Services Club was, a compromise could be a four- or five-storey building. But the rest of Manuka Circle should not be touched.

"The Government is talking about monies and redevelopment. The Manuka Pool is desperate for a couple of million dollars' worth of restoration. Just to come down and paint the front doors, for God's sake."

Passion for the nation's capital run deep in all the recipients.

Mr Pryor, who drew cartoons for The Canberra Times for 30 years until his retirement in 2008, now has a plaque on the walk just a few steps away from his father, Lindsay Pryor, a plant scientist, forester and landscape architect.

"For me, it's my existence. I was born and bred here. I wouldn't live anywhere else, my attachment is that deep," he said, adding the inclusion the walk was "very gratifying".

Mr Miles' parents moved to Canberra in 1954, but he was already at Sydney University. He moved to the capital in 1985 as the chief justice of the ACT Supreme Court and never left.

"I came here but it's my home. I retired [14] years ago and this is where we're going to live and I've made arrangements at Woden cemetery," he said with a laugh.

The Jennings Germans were 150 tradesmen from Germany who were enticed to Australia to build 1850 homes in Canberra for AV Jennings Construction in the 1950s.

Joiner Edgar Weiss, 84, of O'Connor, was among them, arriving in Canberra in its infancy, later also contributing some of the woodwork in the new Parliament House.

"There was only the Melbourne and Sydney buildings, the police station and the pub. That was it. It was like, 'where's Canberra?'. Look at it now," he said.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr said the Honour Walk, commissioned in 2005, provided "enduring recognition of individuals or groups that have made sustained contributions to the ACT".

St John's Anglican Church Canberra was "a focal point for the communities of the Limestone Plains and remains to this day a place of religious and social significance for many Canberrans".

Mr Hoffman was honoured posthumously for his work with the Canberra City Band, introducing instrumental music in Canberra's schools and as a music critic for The Canberra Times.
