At the October 2015 awards, Kelly became the first female to win the Australian Wedding Photographer of the Year category in the awards' 40 year history.

The 2016 ACT awards have just happened up in Sydney, and this year Kelly not only again took out Wedding Photographer of the Year, but also Professional Photographer of the Year – the big one.

"This time I won the overall one. As well as winning the wedding category I won the title of professional photographer as well – it's sort of a bit of a step up. It's really exciting," Kelly said.

And they weren't the only awards for Kelly on the night - she also walked away with wins in the Signature Worthy Award and Highest Scoring Point category.

Kelly's four entry photos were all shot at weddings around Canberra. They vary from a more classic shot in the iconic James Turrell Skyspace at the National Gallery, to a portrait which was cut up and then pieced back together, and a shot combining 78 pairs of shoes.

"It looks like buttons from far away. I went around to every single guest at a wedding and made them take their shoes off and took a photo of it," she said.

The shoes in the pic include the bride and groom's, and there's Grandpa's shoes with a cane, some animal print loafers and even pink thongs.

"To me, for a wedding, it just sums up the personality and the style and the whole vibe of the wedding through one's shoes. It was a bit crazy but it was a whole lot of fun, the couple were really into it and it was a really great experience," she said

"I try and conceptualise things like that with my weddings and really try and bring something new to wedding photography which is always a challenge because everyone does a lot of the same stuff so creating something like this is great for me it keeps me creatively active."

Kelly will now go on again to the national awards, which are at the end of August.
