While Samantha Longmore said her emerging label Ohhbulldust handmade knits was still "a hobby turning into a business", she was receiving overtures to go wholesale and sell on a large-scale as she made and distributed the pieces herself.

"I have not stopped since November last year, even over summer," she said. "The lady at my local post office is not always happy with me [because of all the mail-outs]."

But at the moment, she is happy keeping the "perfectly imperfect" Australian merino wool-chunky knits as a self-run venture - and to keep her prices reasonable.

"I've seen the same kind of things I do, sell for 10 times the amount I charge. My idea was always to make them available to everyone." she said.

She will be one of the exhibitors at a new "handmade makers market" to be held in The Old Courthouse in Murrumburrah, north-west of Canberra, this weekend, an idea to promote the work of creative locals in the region, fostered by the Harden Regional Development Corporation.

Annie Jacobs from the corporation said the markets were for anyone to "make it, grow it, bake it, create it, upcycle it or recycle it" and this weekend's event followed a successful trial late last year.

"The vision of the markets is to bring together like-minded people for a weekend of exhibiting, idea-swapping and with the aim to invite our neighbouring communities to participate and support the talent we have in our areas," Annie said.

"We also want to help support and advertise our local eateries and stores and most of all to come together to grow, to make change and to to give those creators who have trouble putting themselves out there a leg up. We will also be supporting the community as a whole with the proceeds from stallholder fees going to a local charity."

Now 24, Samantha was in a car accident four years ago, the details of which she does not like to revisit. She was left a "hemiplegic", with the right side of her body, from her shoulder to her toes, paralysed, leaving her in a wheelchair.

About a year ago she began her label, her knitting technique using just one elbow and a pole hard-won after lots of experimentation.

"I've always been quite creative and I thought, 'Oh, I might make myself a scarf' and it took a long time to make that scarf," she said.

She now makes not only scarves but throws, pillows, rugs, stuffed animals and accessories including wool earrings.

Samantha sources the wool from the Nundle woollen mill in north-western NSW and does all the treatment to it herself, including the dyeing.

The hope is for the wool to be eventually sourced from her and her partner's own property in Binalong.

"We've got a five-year plan to be completely and totally self-sustainable by then," she said.

In the meantime, she is happy to be part of the promotion of local creative talent. The markets are already scheduled to run again in December.

"There are so many people doing so many great things," she said.

The Makers' Popup Markets will be in The Old Courthouse, Vernon Street, Murrumburrah on Saturday from 11am to 4pm and Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
