Creative director of Bison Home in Pialligo, Brian Tunks will fill his store with fresh flowers and hold a series of free workshops for a new spring festival called Botanica.

Brian said he wants to show off to visitors why Canberra is the "capital of cool" during the three-week event.

"The creative community in Canberra doesn't really express itself during spring in terms of an event, so I thought why don't I do my own?" he said.

Kicking off on September 19, Brian will lead the first workshop, discussing pottery plus styling and design tips for the home.

On September 26, Gus Armstrong from Braddon restaurant eightysix will share some spring recipes. Next up, Loulou Moxom from florist Moxom and Whitney will create arrangements for the home and discuss the rules of proportion on October 3.

And finally, cocktail "mixologist" Russell Pearson will explain how to perfect the ideal tipple for entertaining.

Brian said as well as locals, he hopes the event brings visitors to Canberra out to Pialligo.

"One of my great joys I get living in this town is that when I drive out to Pialligo, I drive past the nurseries, I go down the end of the street and there's vineyards, there's Pialligo Estate doing great things with organic produce, and it was the original location for so many of Canberra's market gardens and dairies," he said.

"We'd like to share the amazing potential and creative output with our visitors."

Brian said if things go well this year, they're hoping to make it bigger and better next year.

The Bison Home showroom is at 6/8 Beltana Road, Pialligo. It is open 10am-4.30pm daily with the workshops on 3-3.45pm each Saturday from September 19-October 10.
