My vision for the CMF is a massive program of dance, music, theatre and visual arts that stretches across six venues including Fringe Central, which will be pulsating with stunning entertainment from start to finish.
Little Dove Theatre Art is fundamentally an interactive live art company. We are interested in the creation of a new kind of spectacle that uses philosophy, emotional intelligence and biology to make shows and events that truly connect with audiences. It is every artist's duty to create works that speak for others. That's a responsibility we take very seriously.
My biggest challenge in the arts was SO MANY! And I love them all, except perhaps the lack of local training for professionals – that's a pain. But it is improving. In live performance it was challenging: initially to create inspiring works fuelled by a love of humanity without them looking like a Hallmark card. With events and shows, it's a challenge to convince the powers that be, that art can be for everybody. Festivals need passionate organisers that at least attempt to show respect for everybody, and that will shine in the programming.
My proudest achievement in the arts is every inimitable moment that an audience member and performer interact in Little Dove's live art works. As a reluctant participant in interactive performance myself, I find it astoundingly moving. It has taught me to listen to my gut as a creator.
The Music ACT Music Awards' s debut was my first big event that brought together a wide spectrum of local music talent from classical to punk, in to one spectacular show. I knew then that I wanted to further develop these kinds of events for Canberra. Plus that event introduced me to a tireless team of individuals who are equally passionate about supporting artists and making big presents for our community.
The secret (or key, or crucial factor) to running a successful arts event is listening. And responding in appropriate and unexpected ways.
