Molecule jewellery is: A range in our design label covering some of our favourite molecules which represent various things such as caffeine, chocolate (theobromine), alcohol (ethanol), and love and pleasure (dopamine) to name a few.
My favourite piece created is: Hard to pick! I love the serotonin molecule necklace (representing happiness) but I also love the Darwin's Tree of Life (done as a necklace, brooch or ornament) which features Charles Darwin's scribblings and sketches from his 1859 book On the Origin of Species.
The connection between science and art is: Science is information and knowledge which has an inherent beauty that can be revealed through art. While the two is often thought of as polar opposites, scientists and artists tend to approach problems in a similar way – with open-mindedness and curiosity. The idea of science informing art and art informing science can be seen in a rise of multi-disciplinary co-working spaces around the world. But then again, this idea isn't new, with Leonardo da Vinci as one of the most famous advocate of this multi-disciplinary approach: "Art is the queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the generations of the world."
My day job is: A User Experience (UX) Designer. I'm really passionate about UX design, which is about exploring how humans interact with services and products, and designing these to be useful, easy to use, appealing and engaging. There's a really nice mix of design, psychology and science in UX.
The best thing about living in Canberra is: The science festival! There is a wealth of interesting science talks by fascinating people. I also love the creative life and the food scene. I'm constantly amazed by the range of creative endeavours in Canberra, from the formal art scene to the underground nature of the Hacker/Maker movement (think hacking, 3D printing, laser cutting and electronics). The range of food choices, particularly once you leave the city centre and explore the outer suburbs, reveals lots of great culinary adventures.
