Seal visits Canberra's Freyja Christiansen as she raises funds for cancer treatment

Champion motorcyclist Valentino Rossi pledged his support from the MotoGP circuit in Italy last weekend. Musician Seal this week stopped by to visit her in hospital and have a little dance.

But amid all the celebrity and excitement is a very real effort to save the life of a little girl.

As we told you earlier this year, Canberra five-year-old Freyja Christiansen has been suffering from a very rare cancer in her neck.

Due to its position at the base of her skull, decided it was was inoperable due to a possible impact on brain function. It's an aggressive cancer usually seen in adults.

Doctors this week changed their diagnosis to clear cell sarcoma-like gastrointestinal cancer.

For the past five months, Freyja has been treated at the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick.

With her has been mum Lizzie Christiansen-Young and her sisters Inge and Brynn, who have been living at the Ronald McDonald House to be close to her.

While immunotherapy treatment has been keeping Freyja's health steady, there are concerns for her future, with people diagnosed with the rare cancer all having a limited outlook.

Her supporters are now trying to raise $300,000 to send her overseas, perhaps the United States, the United Kingdom or Germany, to try alternative, potentially life-saving treatment.

A major online auction is now in the works to help raise the needed funds. Items that will be donated include signed memorabilia from the MotoGP riders including Rossi (the family has a contact on the circuit).

Details of the auction are being finalised but you can keep track of it at www.acureforfreyja.com/

Someone who knows the real challenges of fighting cancer is Love Your Sister's, and Canberra's own, Connie Johnson, who sent Freyja a special message on Thursday morning, telling her she was "a strong soul".

Meanwhile, Seal, also a judge on The Voice, visited Freyja and the other kids on the children's cancer ward at The Sydney Children's Hospital this week, inspired by its use of music to help raise the spirits of the young patients.
