Ms Bailey and her fiance moved to Canberra in early 2016, got engaged in February and subsequently booked in their wedding for March 3, 2017 at The Lobby Restaurant in Parkes.

"It's such a beautiful place. My partner and I went there and we were like, 'this is it, we can stop looking'," Ms Bailey said.

On December 19, less than three months before the big day, their wedding reception plans were shattered when they received an email from the venue, saying that it will cease to trade on January 14, 2017.

"The owners of the restaurant have been made aware that their licence to operate will not be renewed in 2018 and this has pushed them to make this difficult decision," the email said.

"Without the prospect of trading past the licence end date and major complications with the building, this is their only option as they would not be able to trade solvently/legally until the end of the licence."

The Lobby Restaurant was contacted for comment by Fairfax Media on Tuesday but not respond before deadline.

Ms Bailey said she was "shocked" at the email, which is the only communication she's had from the venue about the cancellation, and has been desperately trying to find a replacement venue.

With all of their guests coming from interstate - some as far as Perth and Townsville - and with flights already booked, the couple is searching for a venue with availability on the same day.

"With 10 weeks to go, the invitations are already out," Ms Bailey said.

"We want to try and get something [booked in] before Christmas, in case they all get booked out. And with the venue they offered flowers for the table and a DJ and all that stuff, so now we have to find another DJ and see what we can do for the tables."

Bruce Gibbs, owner of heritage-listed The Lobby Restaurant, told The Canberra Times in May 2016 he believed his business would close due to a long-running stoush with the National Capital Authority.

The venue, which originally opened almost 50 years ago and overlooks the Rose Gardens of Old Parliament House, changed from a restaurant to a functions venue in recent years.

Given the popularity of the venue for weddings, Ms Bailey believes, "there might be a lot of brides in the [same] situation".
