The Sound of Music joy alive on Salzburg tour

The death of actress Charmian Carr this week, forever to be remembered as the sixteen-year-old Liesl von Trapp, once again turned the minds of millions worldwide to The Sound of Music. The most popular film musical ever made, breaking box-office records in 29 countries, has lost the first of its seven child stars. As for so many other people, it was ingrained in my mind after watching it, transfixed, countless times on video as a child with my siblings. My parents didn't have a record or CD collection, so the 1965 film's soundtrack, from Do-Re-Mi to Climb Every Mountain to So Long, Farewell are my earliest musical memories. So I jumped at the opportunity to complete the movie's tour of Salzburg, where much of the film was shot, during a European trip last year.
