In a mammoth effort by Canberra Airport staff and contractors last week, an iconic Lockheed Hudson Mark IV Bomber was lifted onto metal scaffolding and reversed into the main foyer of the airport.
The airport removed part of the terminal's glass wall to facilitate the installation, and conservation staff from the Australian War Memorial will spend this week putting the pieces of the aircraft back together.
The Hudson A16-105 - which played an enormous role in the Pacific during the Second World War - will be on permanent display near the Virgin Airlines check-in desk.
It is part of a series of 'objects' installed by Canberra Airport over the past 12 months to give visitors a taste of our cultural institutions as soon as they hit the ground in the ACT.
The installation is a joint collaboration between Canberra Airport, the Australian War Memorial, Virgin Australia and Lockheed Martin.
