Data released by Costco last week, detailing the top 10 products purchased at the Canberra warehouse this financial year, has Kleenex and Sorbent "bath tissue" at numbers three and nine, respectively.

But the number one product purchased is a product some people line up almost an hour for - and it isn't bought inside the warehouse. It's petrol.

Petrol is Costco's biggest seller nationally, so we're on par with our fellow states and territory on that front. Cars banked up at the Costco bowsers are a common site over at Majura Park, especially at lunchtime when hundreds of public servants from Brindabella Business Park make their way across to the shopping precinct for lunch and grab a cheap rotisserie chook for dinner.

We're a city of runners, cyclers and even, well, twerkers, but when it comes to looking after our insides we're mostly concerned about painful weeing.

At number two on Costco Canberra's top 10 list is Swisse Ultiboost High Strength Cranberry Capsules. Turns out Canberrans are good at taking cranberry capsules daily, buying the tablets in bulk canisters of 180 tablets, or six months' worth in one go. Cranberries are well-known for maintaining excellent urinary tract health, and are often recommended by doctors for help with inflammation and ulcers.

Toilet paper rolls in at number three on Canberra's most purchased list, with Kleenex bath tissue being bought in packs of 48.

Fresh blueberries are fourth on the list, at the bargain price of $13.99 for half a kilo. (We're attributing the popularity of blueberries in Canberra to babies and hipsters - perfect for little ones as an afternoon snack and also on top of apple and blueberry bircher muesli for hipster breakfast.)

Blueberries feature high on the list compared to other states and it seems we're more in love with the little berries than ever: they've moved up the list from number 15 in FY17 to number six in FY18.

The remainder of Costco Canberra's top 10 list is almost all about buying bulk meat on the cheap (and even more toilet paper). Premium lean ground beef, frenched cutlet lamb, salmon fillets and chicken breast make up numbers five to eight on the list, with the old faithful "I can't be bothered cooking tonight" rotisserie chicken rounding out the top ten. Sorbent bath tissue sits at number nine.

A Costco spokesperson said the most surprising item on Canberra's top 10 list was "definitely the cranberry capsules".

"This item isn't in our nationwide top 10, so it's interesting that it's so popular in Canberra," she said.

"It was ranked number seven last financial year - so sales have increased significantly for it to jump up the list so far."

She said Canberrans drink less Coca-Cola than their national counterparts, with Coke appearing in the top 10 lists of almost every other state.
