Jay Kochel has a new series of work showing at CCAS in Civic, with works using 3D scanning, machine code and mechanised drawing to "explore the aesthetics of meaning and mark making. No feeling whatsoever explores mapping unseen spectra, translating machine vision into machine drawing. This exhibition continues ongoing research into 'reading air' as a concept and process to manifest the invisible. The foundation of this work began in Japan as a series of artificial inflatable rock gardens constructed by the artist to mimic karesansui or Zen gardens." No Feeling Whatsoever, by Jay Kochel, is showing at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Canberra City Framing, Cnr Hobart Place and London Circuit, until September 17.

And at a different CCAS, Jessica Brooke Anderson and Ellis Hutch have created a contemplative installation of screen prints, drawings and artist books made whilst working as Artists in Residence at Megalo Print Studio and Gallery. "Their work has been created in response to a recent journey into the Flinders Ranges in South Australia…Into this environment the artists have brought their own interests in how humans encounter unfamiliar spaces, how we respond to the environment around us and view it through our existing lenses." Dreams and Terrors, by Jessica Brooke Anderson and Ellis Hutch, is showing at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, 19 Furneaux Street, Manuka, until August 28.

Which is why online journal Feminartsy, along with Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres and the Fearless Initiative, is presenting an evening of women in comedy next week. It's well known by now that while huge strides have been made for women working across the film, television and entertainment sector, comedy is still a tough nut to crack for women – harsh, unforgiving, backward, sexist. And no, it's not because women aren't funny. It's not! Come to the event and hear Sparrow-folk, Cathy Crowley and Codie Bell speak about their experiences. Sharon Field's show at Form in Queanbeyan has been a virtual sell-out, but gallery director Claire Primrose reckons everyone needs to see the work up close and in person to truly understand why. The works, exploring plants at the end of their lives, are exquisite and detailed. The show's on for another week, but on Sunday, August 21, Field will be giving an artist talk on her technique and practice. She's a new name in these parts, but the guff attached to Plum Green evokes a very 90s kind of magnetism. Which is a good thing! It also names PJ Harvey, Beth Orton and Patti Smith as reference points, which is helpful – also in a good way! Plum Green is currently touring her new EP Karma (90s again!) which, get this: "Commencing life as a four-track cassette in a stark Melbourne bedroom not long after Plum Green and guitarist/producer Daniel Cross relocated to the city three years ago, Karma has since evolved and travelled between borrowed basement and late-night loungeroom recording sessions to become the recording it is today." Her sound is described, variously, as "dreamy", "dark", "bewitching" and "beguiling", and the woman herself a "mischievous sweetheart storyteller". Photographer Octavio Garcia is showing works at The Photography Room at the Old Bus Depot, recreating "a Pantheon of Aztec Gods, using sacred images which were originally carved in stone and painted on traditional paper made from bark (called Codex). By applying photographic chemistry through fine cuts made directly onto the B&W photographic paper, Octavio has created a series of unique photographic prints, which renew and strengthen his spiritual beliefs and cultural identity as a Mexican." This sounds amazing! Aztec Gods, by Octavio Garcia, is showing at The Photography Room, Old Bus Depot, 21 Wentworth Avenue, Kingston Foreshore, until September 4, when Garcia will present an artist talk at 12.00pm. The lovely Seeing Stories exhibition, featuring artworks from Australian children's books, at the National Centre for Australian Children's Literature, has brought in more than 500 people of all ages, and is now drawing to a close. There will be a special closing event on Sunday, August 21, from 12-4pm at the University of Canberra Hub Exhibition Space, featuring children's book creators Tania McCartney, Emma Allen, Hannah Sommerville, Pauline Deeves and Kerry Malone, as well as story readings, art activities, face painting, balloon modelling, and an exhibition of artworks by various well-known illustrators. There'll also be free parking, food and drink, and books for sale.
