A Canberra man was killed in a tragic hit and run while he walked home from a party just outside of Darwin on the weekend.
A 37-year-old woman has been charged over the death of plumber Rikki Colosimo, 35, in the small town of Humpty Doo on Sunday morning.
Police believe Mr Colosimo was either riding or walking his bicycle when he was fatally hit.
The 35-year-old was from the ACT region, and had reportedly only been in Darwin for a number of months.
His death has triggered an outpouring of emotions from families and friends on social media.
Mr Colosimo's younger sister Bobbie Murphy expressed her thanks to those mourning the loss yesterday, but urged them to remember her brother for the "amazing person" he was.
"He wouldn't want us to be sad, but to celebrate his life and remember all of the great times you may have spent with him (frankly, he couldn't remember most of them!!!)," she wrote.
"So please smile, remember him for the truly amazing person that he was and learn the lesson that he taught us by living EVERY second of your life because it can be so short."
Police have seized the car alleged to have struck Mr Colosimo and are conducting further examinations.
