Federal officers raided the home of Gerard David Falzon, 53, of McKellar, early one morning in January 2013.

The Australian Federal Police acted after being informed that a specific IP address had visited a known child pornography website.

Their investigations led them to Falzon's McKellar home.

Police seized six electronic devices, including three computer towers, an external hard drive, a USB stick, and a DVD, according to court documents.

Forensic analysis revealed 2247 child pornography files in total, 2206 images and 41 videos.

Roughly 40 victims were thought to have been exploited in the creation of the pornography.

The victims were aged between two and 17, and were mostly pre-pubescent females, police say.

Four of the images were ranked as being in the most serious category of the Child Exploitation Tracking System – a police database that stores, collates, and analyses such material.

That category is for child pornography involving sadism, bestiality, or humiliation.

The vast majority of the material was in the least serious category, which involves nudity or suggestive depictions of children, but no sexual acts.

It was also found alongside a large collection of adult pornography. Child pornography made up about 44 per cent of the total pornographic collection, according to court documents.

Police say they also discovered search terms used by Falzon to search an online network, including "11yo Asian" and "10yo".

Falzon was arrested and charged with a single count of possessing child pornography.

He appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where Commonwealth prosecutors asked that he be committed to the ACT Supreme Court.

His barrister Ray Livingston confirmed to the court that his client pleaded guilty to the offence.

Magistrate Karen Fryar committed Falzon for sentence.

He will appear in the higher court next month.
