Sabah Al-Mdwali had gone back to her abusive husband only one month before he allegedly murdered her in their Gordon home, documents say.
Maged Mohommed Ahmed Al-Harazi, 34, is alleged to have had a volatile temper, and had pulled knives on family members, struck the mother of his three children, and threatened to kill her.
Mr Al-Harazi entered pleas of not guilty when he appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.

Former All Blacks scrumhalf Jimmy Cowan has emerged as a contender to join the ACT Brumbies at the end of the year as the club ramps up a worldwide search to replace French-bound vice-captain Nic White.
The Brumbies have put together a list of some of the world's most experienced No. 9s as potential recruits, including South African Fourie du Preez and France's Frederic Michalak.
Canterbury Crusaders star Andy Ellis has dropped out of contention and is believed to be keen to stay in New Zealand. But 51 Test All Black Cowan has joined the market as the Brumbies attempt to fill White's shoes.

Incoming Canberra Business Chamber chief executive officer Robyn Hendry hopes to tackle challenges facing the territory's sluggish economy and boost its resilience.
The Canberra Convention Bureau chief executive officer will take the reins from outgoing chamber leader Chris Faulks next month.
Ms Hendry said she was excited about new opportunities stemming from the merger of the Canberra Business Council and ACT and Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry last year.
But the move is not without "a tinge of sadness" after 10 years with the bureau.

The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) attended a total of 21 calls for help as a result of the wet weather on Tuesday. Since 9am on Tuesday Canberra received falls of 53.2mm, more than theaverage monthly rainfall for April.
ACT Emergency Services Commissioner Domenic Lane said the jobs included incidents of fallen tree debris and leaking roofs. He described the level of damage overnight as minor.
