There are also reports that Al-Jazeera's Canadian-Egyptian bureau chief Mohamed Fahmy could be released "within days", but there is no word yet on Greste other colleague, Al-Jazeera producer Baher Mohamed.
Mr Greste is on his way home now, having travelled via Cyprus, according to Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop.

It back to school for kids across Canberra today.
With an estimated 42,700 students enrolled in ACT public schools, including 4,700 children starting preschool, drivers are reminded that 40km/h school zones come into effect today and ACT Policing will be enforcing speed limits.
- Monday is the start of a new academic year across schools in Canberra and at St Francis of Assisi in Calwell it seems to be a case of keeping it in the family. Two formers students, sisters Michelle Aiken and Alison Bond, are returning to the school with their own littlies in tow.
- A recent study by The Smith Family has found families will spend more than $2000 per child on additional school costs throughout the year.
More than 270 fashion hopefuls strutted the catwalk on Sunday in the hope of being crowned one of two faces of this year's Fashfest event.
The event at the National Convention Centre was the biggest model casting ever held in Canberra for a single event, with applications smashing last year's turnout where 165 hopefuls vied for a spot on the Fashfest catwalk.
For the first time, one male model and one female will be chosen as the faces of the 2015 festival in May.
