The girl was travelling in a Nissan Pulsar with her father on Southern Cross Drive in Florey when the car collided with a Nissan Navara at the intersection of Chewings Street around 7pm.
The father was not harmed but taken to Calvary Hospital and is devastated by the loss of his daughter, whose identity is not yet known.
Officer in Charge Traffic Operations, Station Sergeant Susan Ball said the death was "absolutely tragic news" for the immediate family and the ACT community.

Fairfax Media understands Speight will sign a three-year Wallabies deal on Thursday and Roff expects the ACT Brumbies flyer to come into immediate consideration to play the All Blacks on August 8 when his suspension is up.
Speight will also extend his Brumbies contract until the end of 2018.The 27-year-old is one of the best finishers in Super Rugby, and both the Wallabies and Brumbies see him as an important cog going forward.

Midday: Yamba Drive has reopened to traffic.
9.58: Planned road closures for Fairbairn Avenue today have been postponed due to wet weather.
9.46am: Northbound lanes on Yamba Drive remain closed from the Beasley Street intersection after a crash this morning. Traffic is being diverted to Beasley Street.
9.35am: Emergency services are at another crash, this time in Wanniassa. Two cars collided at the intersection of Harricks Crescent and Erindale Drive. One car is still on the road but is expected to be cleared soon.
9am: A driver was lucky to escape injury after their car has crashed into a tree and a light pole in Gowrie. The crash happened near the intersection of Wheatley Street and Castleton Crescent. No road closures are in place.
8.56am: Drive carefully out there today - three crashes this morning have slowed traffic southside and motorists can expect delays around Yamba Drive.
Police closed northbound lanes after a two-car collision northbound on Yamba Drive at the Numeralla Street intersection in O'Malley.
Another crash on Julia Flynn Avenue in Isaacs was also affecting traffic on Yamba Drive. One car rolled in the two-vehicle incident but no-one was injured.
There has also been a third crash in Gowrie.
8.40am: Motorists have been urged to avoid Yamba Drive, which has been closed northbound after two crashes this morning.
8:30am: Emergency services are at the scene of a crash on Yamba Drive in O'Malley.
Road closures: There will be two temporary single lane closures on Fairbairn Avenue, at the intersection of Morshead Drive under the Fairbairn Avenue bridge, from 9am to 1pm today.
A single lane on that section of Fairbairn Avenue will be closed to westbound traffic from 9am to 11am and to eastbound traffic from 11am to 1pm.
The lane closures will allow for the removal of temporary walking paths from underneath the Fairbairn Avenue bridge as part of the Majura Parkway project.
Barriers as well as warning signs will be erected to alert people to the lane closures.

Most of them weren't even born when the movie Grease was released in 1978, much less when the original Broadway show hit the stage in 1971 or, indeed, during its late-1950s setting.
However, for performers and audiences, the enduring appeal of Grease transcends such trifling matters.The forthcoming production at the Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre has proved the point.
Director Stephen Pike said Grease was "the biggest-selling show we've ever had here and it hasn't even opened yet". "There are already several sold-out performances," he said.
