Canberra tennis star Nick Kyrgios has claimed the biggest scalp of his rising career, beating childhood hero and 17-time grand slam champion Roger Federer early this morning.
Federer saved six match points before Kyrgios blasted his way to a career-defining win, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 (14-12) in more than two hours in the third round at the Madrid Masters.

CAPE TOWN: ACT Brumbies halfback Nic White admits the ARU's eligibility backflip has put his World Cup hopes in jeopardy, but says he won't get bogged down in the pursuit of a Wallabies jersey.

Motorists have been warned of delays on Northbourne Avenue on Thursday after an awning on a Civic building was damaged.
The kerbside, southbound lane of Northbourne Avenue has been closed between Cooyong Street and Bunda Street as a precaution. The other two lanes will be open to traffic but delays are expected, particularly during the morning peak.
Road users are encouraged to use an alternative route to bypass Northbourne Avenue.

Miriam Margolyes is nothing if not forthright. In response to an admirer's fond compliment, she replied, "I'm not beautiful. I'm a fat old cow. I speak my mind."
And speak her mind she did. In Canberra for a season of her show The Importance of Being Miriam, she quickly weighed in on the recent incident in which the male partner of the Australian Ambassador to France was asked to wait in the car and not greet the Prime Minister at a Paris airport.
"What an arsehole!" she said.

The Canberra Theatre has been transformed for Le Noir: the Dark Side of Cirque. For the first time, seats are arranged almost 360 degrees with some audience members on the stage, just a few metres from the performers.
Executive producer Andrew Spencer said: "It's the first time this type of entertainment has come to Canberra."
