Workplace battles between the government and employees look set to continue, after new bargaining rules were released yesterday.

The policy released by the Australian Public Service Commission retains the cap on wage growth at 2 per cent annually, below predicted inflation. Speaking to Doug Dingwall, APS Commissioner John Lloyd said unions had exaggerated the level of industrial turbulence within the public service.

One of the highest ranking Nomads in Australia was arrested on Wednesday on charges of assault.

During an application for bail, lawyers for Michael Wayne Clark, 32, said the man had heard police wanted to speak with him, so took himself to City Police Station.

Once there, he was arrested and brought before the ACT Magistrates Court.

Mr Clark is the Canberra Nomads chapter president, and the sergeant at arms for the national group.

The ACT government will spend an extra $17 million on health services and security at Canberra's jail, with $8 million of that to be spent on establishing a Winnunga Nimmityjah model of care inside the prison.

The announcement comes more than a year after a damning review of the Alexander Maconochie Centre was handed down. While Justice Minister Shane Rattenbury said the jail didn't have a gang problem, $8 million that would be spent on creating a centralised intelligence agency within the facility would combat organised crime within the jail.

Ukraine captain Mikhail Filima compared Kostyuk to Martina Hingis yesterday, and Australian captain Alicia Molik agreed. Kostyuk reached the third round of the Australian Open last month and will be among the Ukraine team that takes on Australia's Ash Barty and Daria Gavrilova at the Lyneham Tennis Centre on Saturday and Sunday.

And for your cute fix for the day, this wallaby was found hopping around Braddon on Wednesday, after spending Tuesday night trapped in a courtyard at Centrelink on Lonsdale Street.

The staff who found him fed him a carrot and an apple, and ACT Parks and Conservation Rangers released the wallaby back into the bush at Mount Ainslie.
