She had three images nominated in the awards in the categories nature, wildlife and fine art, matching it with other professional photographers from around the world.

Sam, who lives in Wright and works around Canberra and Merimbula, captured the images in the ACT and on the South Coast, but also as far away as Queensland.

"The hanging fly photo was taken at Mulligans Flat Woodlands Sanctuary and has now been awarded two awards," she said.

"The other award it gained was an honourable mention in the International Photography Awards in the micro category on 2017.

"The hanging fly was actually catching the spider for a meal and not the other way around.

"Dusk Reflections was taken near Bournda Island on the Sapphire Coast after a storm uncovered some colourful rocks.

"And A Jagged Edge was taken at Moreton Island."

Sam says she is inspired by both the bush and sea.

"People travel long distances to take their photos but often what is in your backyard can be surprisingly beautiful," she said.

"Taking a fresh look at the environment can give you some fabulous shots. I revisit many places, waiting for that special moment in the weather or time of day that will add to the photo and what I am trying to portray.

"I constantly seek to push the boundaries of what I and the camera can do It isn't actually about having masses of technical knowledge, it is more about being creative and understanding light."
