A survey revealing more than 80 per cent of parents and carers supported more traditional school uniforms at ACT public high schools helped spark the move to change the government's uniform policy.
Calwell High School students are among those requesting a change to a more traditional style of uniform, which will take affect next year.
Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch said the the Student Uniform Committee worked with students, the school's board and the Parent and Citizen Association to identify the colours and style to represent Calwell High.
"Calwell High School's new uniform is a practical demonstration of the growing school pride and sense of identity that students have in their school, and I want to be able to help foster that pride for students and families across Canberra," Ms Burch said.
"The ACT Education and Training Directorate's Dress Standard and Colour Code in Public Schools policy will be updated to encourage the move to more traditional uniforms. This will provide an avenue for schools and the Canberra community to contribute to this direction.
"Students and families should rightly have pride in their ACT public school and I believe many schools will take the opportunity of support that this updated policy will provide."
Half of Canberra's existing public high schools already have a school uniform.
