The rainy weather may have forced most Canberrans to spend the weekend indoors, but when the clouds clear snow-seekers can look forward to the first big snowfalls of the season thanks to a cool change expected later in the week.

The capital received close to 10 millimetres of rain on Saturday and with just over 14mm falling as of 8.40pm Sunday, Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott said the territory was well on its way to reaching the upper prediction of 30mm.
Tuggeranong was pelted with close to 20mm by Sunday evening and just over 11mm on Saturday.
"This rain is likely to be fairly continuous, there'll be pockets of heavier stuff now and then, but you've still got a wee while before it does stop raining," she said.
Ms Westcott said it was raining across much of eastern NSW and was set to spread inland in the state's south.
After a rainy Sunday night, it would be lighter from Monday when between 5mm to 15mm of rain was predicted.
But as the weather clears the far south of the ACT was tipped to be lashed by severe winds on Monday afternoon as was the Snowy Mountains, parts of the Mid North Coast, Hunter, South Coast, South West Slopes, and Northern Tablelands.
Ms Westcott said the winds were only likely to hit higher parts of the territory such as the Brindabellas, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning of damaging winds averaging 60 to 65km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90km/h.
"It's caused by the low pressure system that's developing within this rain band," she said.
"After all this wind and rain clears it's probably going to start getting a little colder again and potentially we could see some snow soon."
From Friday and into the weekend snow was expected in the alpine regions and meteorologists tip it could herald the first big falls of the season with predictions of 5cm to 10cm on the peaks and even snow on the Brindabellas.
"I know that lots of people in the south-east are looking forward to this snow coming," Ms Westcott said.
"The coldest day is going to be around Thursday and Friday into the weekend when this cold front comes though and we're looking at going back down to… [an overnight low of] zero on Saturday."
After the last east coast low earlier in the month pelted Canberra with just over 65mm of rain in one day, Ms Westcott said the territory had well and truly surpassed its June average of 41mm with 119mm falling so far, not counting the weekend's rain.
Tuggeranong has experienced an even wetter June with close to 82mm falling on June 6 bringing its total monthly rainfall to almost 150mm.
Conditions were tipped to be worse along the south coast on Sunday night.
As of 8.40pm Ulladulla had received close to 27mm of rain.
Rain on Sunday afternoon resulted in at least one car crash in Canberra's south when two people were hospitalised after a two-car crash on Isabella Drive at Chisholm.
Emergency services had earlier warned motorists to drive to the conditions, avoid flooded roads and stay away from floodwaters and drain pipes.
