Dainere, 14, has been diagnosed with inoperable and incurable tumours on her spine after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2009. Her doctor advised her to start a bucket list - things she wanted to achieve before she died.

That sounds unspeakably sad and just a little harsh when applied to a young girl but the remarkable Dainere is all about celebrating life.

We contacted her family to talk about the publication of her second book and the items on her ''special list'' came out of that interview. The family neither expected nor anticipated any response or special treatment.

But Canberrans have come to the fore once again. To fulfil some of her goals on the list, Dainere has been offered a special tour of the National Zoo and Aquarium, a cruise on Lake Burley Griffin by Lakeside Ferry Cruises and an invitation to a cat show by Capital Cats Inc. A media-shy ''Kathryn of North Lyneham'' donated hot-air balloon tickets with Balloon Aloft.

Dainere is now not well enough to fulfil her aim of rockclimbing but Canberra Indoor Rockclimbing at Mitchell is letting her teddy bear, Theodore, the subject of her latest book, have a go tomorrow.

Dickson College is also to study Dainere's story as part of a positive psychology unit while fund-raising for the The Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation Brain Tumour Fund. Parents and teachers at Dainere's school, Burgmann Anglican College, are also organising events for the fund.

All proceeds from Dainere's book Theodore and Friends - Theodore is Left Out are going to the fund.

At last check only 12 of the initial print run of 100 were left. A second run of another 100 copies will be available soon.

Needless to say Dainere and her family are overwhelmed and very thankful.
