The 1000-square-metre store, which sits between Big W and Toys"R"Us in the Majura Park Shopping Centre, is the standard size for the franchise, an Aldi spokesman said.
They said the new shop will have redesigned shelving, expanded wooden produce bays and extended chillers.
Between 15 and 20 full and part-time employees were hired to work at Canberra's 11th Aldi.
While families remain a key demographic to shop at Aldi, the spokesman said it had seen an increase in the number of younger shoppers, particularly those under 35 with no children, since 2006.
Canberra Airport head of property, Richard Snow, was confident there would be high demand for the supermarket, despite competing with the centre's Woolworths and Costco.
"Costco and Aldi have a different approach to the market," he said.
"It just means that Majura will become a one-stop-shop and we think it will actually add to the trade of all of the retailers and businesses there because it is just one more reason to go there."
He said the 2.3 million shoppers that visited the centre annually had grown by 4 to 5 per cent in recent years and were drawn from all over Canberra.
The new Aldi was a major step in remodelling the southern area of the shopping centre, Mr Snow said.
"As part of the Aldi works we are removing about 20 metres of the facade and we are putting two new retails in there," he said.
"So far we have been able to secure Cafe Cherry Beans, a prominent cafe that will sit on the corner."
Hairdressing franchise Just Cuts will also join the precinct, along with a few more retailers yet to be announced.
Mr Snow said he would soon reveal what store will replace the space previously occupied by Dick Smith, which closed after its receivers failed to find a buyer for the electronic chain that went into receivership in January.
When asked if he thought the precinct's expansion would cause headaches for commuters, Mr Snow said recent and current roadworks in the area had addressed the issue.
In the coming months, the section between Fairbairn Avenue and the southern roundabout of Majura Park will be duplicated to allow dual access through to the Majura Parkway.
"We really believe all traffic congestion around Majura Park is now over with all of the road works in that area," he said.
"We think it can handle additional traffic created by these new retailers."
