But they do admit to feeling "incredibly devastated" by being the first team eliminated from the competition this season, relegated to last place by just two points by Western Australian team, "well-travelled friends" Chloe James and Kelly Ramsay.

It comes as judge Manu Fieldel responded on Facebook on Wednesday to allegations the scoring on MKR is rigged, with Chloe and Kelly seemingly getting off lightly for using store-bought puff pastry and bread whereas last season, Tasmanian friends Ali and Samuel were accused of cheating by judge Pete Evans for using a bought jar of curry paste.

"This is what I love about MKR! There's always robust debate about scoring," Fieldel said, on his Facebook page.

"But from someone who was there tasting the food, I can assure you Chloe and Kelly's dinner was better than Andrew and Emelia's. My judgment is mine, and mine alone. I always focus on scoring the food, not the personality. I am proud of what I do and the show we produce."

The other contestants on Tuesday night gave Chloe and Kelly a combined score of 18 out of 50 for their instant restaurant, a worse result than for Andrew and Emelia. But Evans and Fieldel gave the girls' dishes scores as high as nine out of 10, putting them just ahead.

The WA team's end score of 49 was enough to push Andrew and Emelia, who had scored 47, out of the competition.

Emelia said she believed the other contestants were on her and Andrew's side.

"We became good friends with everyone and I think when push came to shove, the other teams really did want to save us," she said.

"It was surprising to us as well that [Chloe and Kelly] performed so poorly that evening because we were expecting it to be amazing - not using store-bought puff pastry and bread, like, I was horrified. But it also made us think perhaps we had a chance, right to the end. But I think you're right, it was the judges who pulled them through."

Filming of the episodes happened last year and Emelia said it had been difficult keeping mum on the result.

"To be honest, I feel really quite relieved because I feel like I've been pretending the whole time and it's really bizarre," she said.

Andrew, a graphic designer, said on the show that he was feeling "pretty gutted" by the result.

"We really just wanted that one more chance to prove to people we could cook, but I guess that's the competition," he said.

Emelia, the business development manager for the Canberra Convention Bureau, said they tried not to be affected by comments made on social media.

"We've tried to keep a level head about it all," she said. "We were kind of just characters on a TV show. But I was incredibly devastated to be the first team eliminated and I don't think anything anyone said to us could make us feel worse."

They hope their appearance on the show will open the door for other ACT contestants in the future and show Canberra in a different light.

"I think we did our job in being different and quirky," she said. "It would have been nice to stay in the competition a bit longer but I think in the current format, I'm not sure we want to get involved in all the politics anyway."

Emelia said travelling Australia and spending time with Andrew was the best part of being in the show.

"It was a really good experience for both of us," she said.

The worst part was "all the cattiness and bitchiness".

But they haven't lost their trademark optimism.

The couple's food blog, Andrew and Emelia's Food Adventures went live on Tuesday night. They are also planning a food event for March 1 in Canberra where they will cook for the public.

"It's going to be called Andrew and Emelia Can Cook," she said, with a laugh.

"Everyone who's been following the show and wants to come and meet us will be able to come along and taste our food. It'll be a free event with music and ideally in a park. We've always been pro-Canberra and we're going to continue to promote its food and culture."
