Roads ACT has swept up enough waste from the the territory's streets and waterways in the past year to fill almost seven Olympic swimming pools.

Minister for Roads and Parking Mick Gentleman said the 16,907 cubic metres of debris collected in the 2014-2015 year included general rubbish and leaf litter swept off streets and removed from gross pollutant traps in the region's lakes and rivers.
"Every year our street sweepers cover over 17,500 kilometres of ACT roads, or approximately the distance from Canberra to London, and Roads ACT is responsible for clearing 200 gross pollutant traps across the region," Mr Gentleman said.
"Roads maintenance crews also conducted 619,607 square metres of road surfacing, 18,016 square metres of patching and asphalting work and further maintenance work to 18,425 square metres of footpaths in the ACT."
Roads ACT also fixed or replaced 4728 signs - about 13 signs a day.
Mr Gentleman encouraged members of the public to assist crews by reporting any damage to roads or signs.
"With 5900 lane kilometres of road in the ACT, which covers about 20 million square metres, as well as close to 1000 bridges and a large stormwater system to monitor, Roads ACT appreciates any input from the public," he said.
