More than 1000 kilograms of the drug was seized in the ACT in 2014-15, almost three times as much as the year before.
Almost one-fifth of the total cannabis seized across Australia was from the ACT, with more marijuana confiscated here than in most of the larger states, including Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia, according to the Illicit Drug Data Report.
Only NSW and South Australia topped the ACT for cannabis seizures by weight and the ACT reported the greatest percentage increase in the weight of cannabis seized.
More than $6 million of cannabis was pulled off the street when ACT Policing raided eight rental properties dotted across the city last year.
Detective Acting Superintendent Matt Reynolds said more than 1200 plants were seized during Operation Armscote.
"This is over 1200 plants that were kept from the streets of Canberra," he said.
"The operation also led to the arrest of six people, who were then put before the ACT Magistrates Court."
Two men who cultivated the plants in a north Canberra property narrowly avoided time behind bars in February this year.
Police in all states and territories reported increases in the number of cannabis seizures in 2014-15.
But despite a record number of national cannabis seizures, the weight of cannabis seized nationally fell for the second consecutive year.
The number of people arrested in Canberra for cannabis offences increased by about a quarter (26.6 per cent) in the year to 2014-15.
However in the same period the number of Simple Cannabis Offence Notices issued dropped by about a quarter (26 per cent).
Simple Cannabis Offence Notices, or SCONs, allow for a person to possess up to 50 grams of dried cannabis or one or two cannabis plants for personal use to be slapped with a fine rather than criminal proceedings.
"Cannabis arrests and seizures account for the greatest proportion of illicit drug arrests for the ACT," Detective Acting Superintendent Marcus Boorman said.
"Dealers should keep looking over their shoulder as they can expect a lot more visits from police in the future."
