The little cherubs were all born this year on World Red Cross Day, May 8, at hospitals across Canberra but came together on the lawns of Lennox Gardens along with Red Cross volunteers past and present to celebrate the organisation's 100th anniversary.
First-time parents Adam Whitby and Marta Whitby-Skousen said it had only been a few months since their baby girl Aurora was born at Calvary John James Hospital.
Mr Whitby said he was just getting used to life as a dad and had not anticipated his little girl would receive such an honour before she could crawl.
"It's really exciting," he said.
"For us there's a strong family connection with Red Cross. I donate blood to the Red Cross regularly and have done since I was at university and Marta's mum Judi Skousen does voluntary work with Red Cross helping the elderly."
Each of the five babies, Lucas Draber, Aurora Whitby, Methuka Mohottala, Mihini Ramasundara and Xavier Orgill was presented with a certificate and Red Cross centenary coin.
ACT Red Cross executive director Wenda Donaldson said hosting a picnic in the park was a great way to gather together and thank many generations of Canberra volunteers.
"The Red Cross Centenary is a great Australian story of amazing generosity and compassion from our local community," she said.
"It's really about everyday people responding in times of crisis and times of need."
Since th formation of the Red Cross in 1914, Ms Donaldson said volunteering had changed shape, but the enthusiasm within the community to lend a helping hand had endured.
"Vulnerability over the last 100 years has changed and Red Cross has always been there to respond," she said.
"Whether it be responding to an emergency such as in the Canberra Bushfires, or in responding to support for asylum seekers settling in Canberra, our community is wonderful in responding to a call for need."
With the gift-giving season fast approaching, Ms Donaldson urged for people to put a little something aside for people and families doing it tough.
