Aaron James Holliday, 29, was jailed for two and a half years in June for his gamble to beat criminal charges while locked up in the Alexander Maconochie Centre in 2010.

Holliday was sentenced to 16 years and six months jail for the original child sex offences, subsequently reduced to eight years on appeal.

An ACT Supreme Court jury last year found Holliday guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice, and two counts of inciting kidnap, resulting in the extra two and half year sentence.

A sentencing hearing in April heard Holliday would have eligible for parole last year if not for the additional charges relating to the kidnapping plot.

While in the Alexander Maconochie Centre in 2010, Holliday offered $7000 cash, a car, and his computer skills as down payment to have two teenagers kidnapped.

Holliday hoped he could clear his name by recording the witnesses reading scripts withdrawing their statements. In July 2010, a cell raid found blueprints of the plan and the scripts.

But Holliday claimed another inmate had authored one of the documents, and that others were a work of fiction he had been writing.

He told his Supreme Court trial that another inmate had approached him and offered to help him beat the charges.

On Tuesday, Holliday's barrister, James Lawton, appealed the sentence and argued it was not an offence to incite someone to arrange another person to kidnap or kill unless the crime was eventually committed.

His lawyer also told the ACT Supreme Court hearing that Holliday was unfairly accused of delivering the documents to another inmate, despite the defence offering no objections during the trail.

The appeal was heard before Chief Justice Helen Murrell, Acting Justice Michael Wigney and Justice Richard Refshauge and will be considered in coming weeks.

Before sentencing Holliday in June, Justice John Burns said his explanations were "absurd".

"Your continuing denial of personal responsibility for the offences is concerning."

The court heard Holliday had earlier this year given a forensic psychiatrist the same explanations.

Justice Burns said he was satisfied that there had been no risk the plan would be carried out.

"But that does not significantly mitigate your offences," the judge said. "This is serious criminal offending designed to corrupt the judicial process.

"It calls for sentences which demonstrate that such offending will have real consequences."

The judge said the offenders' prospects of rehabilitation were uncertain.

Justice Burns said Holliday's completion of a number of courses in custody showed progress, but noted he had demonstrated no remorse for his actions.

If his appeal is unsuccessful, he will be eligible for parole in January.
