Canberra may miss out on the dance music of Foreshore in 2013, but punk-rock will make its return to the capital this year when the guys behind the ‘90s hit Pretty Fly (for a White Guy) take the stage at Exhibition Park along with fellow high-energy rockers The Used and Simple Plan.
This will be the first time The Offspring have toured Australia and included a visit to Canberra.
The news of The Offspring’s return follows the announcement on Wednesday evening that the iconic Warped punk music tour, which has been missing from the Australian festival circuit for 11-years, is coming back down under.
Founder Kevin Lyman first brought the music and skating festival to Australia in 1997.
During the 1998 tour the majority of bands, including the headliners Blink 182, decided to camp instead of stay in hotels in order to cut costs and keep ticket prices down.
Lyman said music fans diverse tastes is the reasoning behind the diverse line-up for the next generation of Warped shows which will kick off in Brisbane on November 29.
“I used to be much more emotionally attached. I mean, I grew with the Bad Religions and the Rancids, and those were all my friends, but to stay relevant, you listen to the fans, you get the feedback – negative, positive, and you built from there,” Mr Lyman told TheMusic.com.au.
“The Warped Tour fans are making a choice, they’re 13 and 14, ‘Am I going to go to One Direction this year or, you know what, maybe I can go to Warped Tour’.
“We’ve been around 19-years in the States and we continue to evolve and I think as an individual paying attention to the people around you that support you is important. I mean, these kids pay our bills, you know? In the long run, they allow us the lifestyle we lead, so, you know what, you can take the time to discuss things with them and learn from them.”
