The ACT government said on Friday it had installed concrete barriers around Civic as a security measure ahead of New Year's Eve.

The barriers were put in place earlier this week, including at two entrances into Garema Place from Bunda Street.
Large crowds are expected to descend on the city and Garema Place for the official celebrations on Sunday night.
An ACT government spokeswoman said that the concrete barriers were part of the traffic management and security measures for the New Year's Eve events.
"With large crowds expected at both the New Year's Eve in the City in Civic Square and Bass in the Place at Garema Place events, these measures are part of the government's commitment to ensuring that public safety remains paramount.
"In addition to the installation of concrete barriers and road closures, both events are alcohol and glass-free to encourage a safe and friendly atmosphere and there will be a police and security presence throughout the evening to ensure that attendees have a safe and enjoyable night."
ACT Policing has also promised a strong police presence in Civic for New Year's.
The territory government joins Sydney and Melbourne councils in bolstering city security this holiday and New Year's.
It was only last week in Melbourne that 32-year-old Saeed Noori allegedly deliberately drove a car into shoppers on Flinders Street and Elizabeth Street.
He faces 18 charges of attempted murder.
That incident followed a similar alleged attack only 11 months earlier. Dimitrious Gargasoulas, 27, is accused of murdering six people and trying to murder dozens more after driving at pedestrians on Bourke Street in January 2017.
In the wake of the January incident in Melbourne, the council installed hundreds of anti-terror concrete bollards across the city.
The bollards have also since spread to city landmarks, such as Luna Park.
On New Year's Eve, Melbourne authorities will close the city's major thoroughfares to traffic, and install extra concrete bollards.
On Boxing Day in Sydney, the entrances to Pitt Street Mall, George Street and Elizabeth Street were blocked off with concrete barricades and semi-trailers.
Authorities have also told the city to expect more concrete barricades and a significant police presence on New Year's Eve.
Canberra's official New Year's celebrations start from 7pm in Civic Square.
Electronic duo Art Vs Science will headline an evening of live music, which also includes locals Brass Knuckle Brass Band and Harry Carman. There will be food trucks, and entertainment for the kids.
Starting at 9pm, Garema Place will host an all-ages and free party, Bass in the Place.
Fireworks from City Hill at 9pm and midnight.
The government spokeswoman said there will be road closures surrounding the events and she encouraged people to take advantage of public transport.

Taxis will also be operating across the evening and Uber is offering a $10 discount to connect from the bus stop to home.
