The Copa Brazilian Churrasco restaurant in Dickson released the statement on Thursday morning, after 140 people fell ill and 15 were admitted to hospital after eating bad mayonnaise nearly two weeks ago.

"It is with sincere compassion and genuine sorrow that we apologize [sic] to all the people and their families affected by the recent tragic sequence of events," the statement said.

"We hope this apology is received to be genuine and in good faith.

"We have removed all products containing raw eggs from our menu to ensure an outbreak of this kind is never repeated at The Copa."

The release said the restaurant management had been unable to make an official statement earlier due to the ongoing investigation.

The Copa thanked the city's hospitals and ACT Health for their response to the outbreak.

"Thank you to the wonderful staff, nurses and doctors at both Canberra and Calvary Hospitals for their efforts in treating those affected."

"We would also like to take this opportunity in thanking ACT Health and the Office of Health Protection for their impartial and rigorous approach in identifying the cause of this outbreak.

"We look forward to the official report being made available to the public so any misconceptions about the incident can be put to rest.

After voluntarily closing its doors last week, The Copa reopened last Saturday.

All affected diners have been discharged from hospital.

ACT chief health officer Paul Kelly has said the eatery addressed the issues health authorities had raised, but monitoring would continue.

A spokesperson for The Copa said despite refusals earlier this week to comment until the official report had been publicly released, they had decided to make an apology now given the release date was unknown.
