Builders and architects unleashed their inner child designing cubbies snug on size and big on style for Floriade's My Cubby House Rocks event on Saturday.

Four cubbies went under the hammer, and one was raffled, raising almost $25,000 for Lifeline Canberra and The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children.

Spirited buying saw local families push prices over $3000 a piece, with many determined to make crowd favourite, a batman-themed structure, their own.

With two daughters, Emma Palfreyman was happy to steer clear of the batman cubby bidding. Instead, she says she snagged a bargain, picking up $1650 cubby for Josie 2, and Eleanor, three months.

"We came to Floriade not planning to buy a cubby and bought one on the spur of the moment when we saw the auction going on," Ms Palfreyman says.

"It's nice the money is going to a good cause and now my husband won't have to build the girls a cubby - this can be their early Christmas present."

Meanwhile a raffled cubby brought in $13,000.

The My Cubby House Rocks project is sponsored by the Independent Property Group Foundation.

Independent Property Group executive director Wayne Harriden said builders and architects had embraced the project wholeheartedly this year, spending more than 200 hours on some of the playhouses.

"It's fantastic that the industry pitches in with such enthusiasm to create the cubbies and really get behind the cause," Mr Harriden said.

"It's a great connection between the building industry and local community. "

Other companies involved are Koundouris Projects, Lend Lease, Cox Architect, CIC Australia, Geocon Building, Construction Control and Kasparek Architects.
