Miodrag Gajic's blood was also found on a shoe found in Danny Klobucar's car after the murder, court documents say.
A statement of facts, tendered on Thursday, detail the murder case against the defendant.
Klobucar, 26, maintained pleas of not guilty when he appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court.
Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker committed Klobucar to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court.
Mr Gajic was found dead on his floor with head injuries when friends visited his Mansfield Place unit about 2pm.
Klobucar was arrested on the night of the murder at the Lighthouse pub in Belconnen in relation to other offences.
He has been in custody since January and was charged with the murder in March.
According to court documents, Klobucar had gone to Mr Gajic's Phillip unit about 1pm on December 30 to buy cannabis.
But Mr Gajic allegedly said to return on New Year's Eve because he had sold out.
Soon after, Klobucar allegedly pointed to Mr Gajic's car and said: "The blue Nissan Micra is a gay car, he must be a paedophile selling drugs and he might have a DVD relating to me from my past".
Klobucar allegedly returned between 10.20am and 11.20am on January 1.
Police allege he knocked Mr Gajic to the ground and inflicted fatal injuries with three to four blows to the head.
He is then accused of dragging Mr Gajic's body up the hallway and stealing his LG mobile phone.
Court documents allege Klobucar used the phone to call two associates later that day.
The mobile has not been recovered.
A police crime scene was established at Mr Gajic's unit, with investigators finding shoe prints in blood in the hallway, lounge room and kitchen.
Police allege a shoe found in Klobucar's car matched the print from the crime scene.
Court documents said Mr Gajic's DNA was also discovered on bloodstains found on the upper leather portion of the same shoe.
Police claim Klobucar left a second blood-stained shoe with his grandfather, who disposed of it.
The shoe has not be recovered, despite a police search at Mugga Lane tip in February.
