Anger at the Barr Labor government, the confounding and surely naive confidence of the Liberals, a scramble among leftist and centrist but inexperienced Canberrans to put together alternative parties, and significantly expanded numbers in the ACT parliament are combining to make the October local election one of the most closely watched since Labor was elected 15 years ago.
