The project is so secret that most Canberrans don't know it has been built or where it is located.
But The Canberra Times understands it could be the top-secret data storage facility that Fairfax Media recently unveiled as being built to cope with the deluge of data siphoned from internet and global telecommunications.
Those involved in the clandestine ''Defence Communications Facilities Project'' took out the major categories during the Project Management Achievement Awards on Friday evening.
Point Project Management took out 2013 Project of the Year for the work and the category for Construction/Engineering in excess of $100 million.
The company's Brendan Bilston won Project Director of the Year, Chris Collins received Project Manager of the Year and John Forster won the Project Team Member of the Year.
The Australian Institute of Project Management ACT chapter presented the awards during a celebratory evening at the Lobby Restaurant in Parkes.
The annual ceremony recognises the best practice in project management and the ACT's most outstanding projects.
Panel judge Robyn Hardy said the judges looked for innovation in problem-solving in the delivery of projects, including dealing with budget and scope issues.
"What we're looking at is how well they delivered it - and generally speaking the more complex it is the more difficult it is to deliver, therefore we celebrate the management of that complexity.''
Dr Hardy said the Defence Communications Facilities Project was a very complex project to deliver because of the technological challenges and sensitivity involved.
It had involved development and delivery of a high performance computing environment and the extension of the network operating centre.
"Point Project performed really well in terms of constructing and developing the facility and they had a number of technical complexities that they had to overcome," Dr Hardy said.
"All of the projects are pretty fantastic in their complexity and delivery performance but this one was just a little cut above the rest."
She said the winner of the second most coveted award, the Project Manager of the Year, had been an extremely strong contender.
