Artistic director David McAllister said the work had been created specifically to fit into the confines of the Canberra Theatre Centre and would have modern and classical components.
''It was co-commissioned with the Canberra Centenary and the first piece of the performance is called Monument,'' McAllister said.
''It is a work by Garry Stewart for about 19 dancers. It is about the building of Parliament House but it's not a narrative - it's about the ideas of democracy. It's a half-hour piece and it's quite a big new commission.
''We are bringing it with a piece we have done before, which is Etudes. The second piece has 45 dancers so it is quite a big work.''
Harald Lander's Etudes features classical technique from the basics to bravura heights.
Canberra has missed out on seeing major works from the Australian Ballet in recent years because of the size restrictions at local venues, but McAllister said this performance had been tailor-made.
''We have designed it to work … it's a world premiere and it's made for Canberra Theatre,'' he said.
''It's amazing how many people in Canberra have subscriptions to the Sydney Opera House. If we bring the same program to Canberra they say 'I've seen that', but this time it is a world premiere and we hope that encourages people to come.
