Staff at the Alexander Maconochie Centre have had to extinguish a blaze after a detainee set fire to bedding in a cell.

The fire started at 6.30pm on Wednesday and AMC staff removed the detainee before putting it out.

The building was evacuated to let the smoke dissipate and ACT firefighters conducted air monitoring with hazmat crews.
No staff or detainees were injured during the incident.
