The woman, 47, has claimed she has faced discrimination and undue influence from the department and sought the removal of her last two performance ratings which she said placed her in the lowest 5 per cent of staff.

Her application filed last month seeks as compensation a posting to Indonesia at an executive level, bonuses she said she would have received if not for the "unsubstantiated low performance ratings", and a separate unspecified sum of money.

The policy officer was serving as a diplomat in the Australian high commission in Brunei in 2007 when she reported allegations her young daughter had been sexually abused by a locally employed staff member.

Investigations by Brunei police and the department found there was insufficient evidence to substantiate the claims.

A Comcare claim was successful after it was found her employment had been a significant contributor to an adjustment disorder after the 2007 allegations, but two claims based on alleged defective administration by the department failed.

The woman said she had made complaints about supervisors prior to both her main poor performance ratings since 2013.

The application claimed she had been discriminated against in an "indirect way" and was overlooked for promotions and postings despite providing high-quality work and acting for periods in higher capacity positions.

The APS5 official, who speaks Indonesian and has an honours degree in Indonesian history, language and politics, was now being performance managed.

A conciliation hearing has been listed for Friday, July 10.

A DFAT spokesman said it would not be appropriate to comment as the matter was before the Fair Work Commission.
