The not-for-profit organisation has for three decades been training owners how to train their dogs on 3½ hectares of open space off Narrabundah Lane. This weekend, the club celebrates its 30th anniversary on the site, recognising the thousands of dogs and handlers to have benefited from its services.
The club was in fact established in 1958, with its first home in Fyshwick.
President Linda Spinaze said aside from a part-time office manager, the club was run entirely by volunteers.
''We get a great deal of enjoyment and pleasure helping people to enjoy their dogs,'' she said.
About 600 households are active club members, seeking help with their canine companions from basic obedience tips to more advanced agility and flyball skills and even instructions on dancing with dogs.
Sunday will see plenty of birthday celebrations for the club combined with Canberra's centenary festivities.
There will be 100 dogs and handlers dressed in centenary yellow forming a big 100 and the agility dogs will jump through hoops forming a 100 shape.
The celebrations start at 12.30pm, with cake for the humans and doggie muffins for the pooches.
The club is located on Narrabundah Lane, Symonston, off Jerrabomberra Avenue.
