Downer local centre rezoning needs reconsideration

New Planning Minister Mick Gentleman ought to think long and hard before he approves the rezoning of the Downer local centre RZ2 to RZ5 ("Downer housing plan looks set to pass", March 24, p1) because the advice from planning officials is not only spurious, it is also not in accordance with provisions of the 2004 Canberra Spatial Plan, nor of the Territory Plan. To put it simply, the behaviour of planning officials in this matter is ad hoc, incompetent and an abuse of statutory process.
