Police are searching for a gun-wielding thief who flagged down a victim in Hume on Sunday.
ACT Policing said the victim was driving on the Monaro Highway when a man stepped out from the tree line and flagged him down just past the intersection with Lanyon Drive around 12.25am.
After pulling his car over to the side of the road, the offender allegedly approached the victim’s car and produced a handgun, demanding the man’s wallet.
The offender removed a small sum of cash from the wallet before striking the man in the side of the head twice before stepping away, allowing the victim to drive off.
The offender is described as African in appearance and 183cm tall, in his mid-twenties with a skinny build.
He was wearing a short sleeved dark shirt with a wave motif and blue jeans.

Fire causes $400,000 damage in Kambah
An over-heated lawn mower started a fire which caused significant damage to a Kambah home earlier today.
ACT Fire & Rescue were called to the scene in Springbett Street, where they found the home well alight just after midday.
Multiple crews extinguished the blaze, which caused an estimated $400,000 of damage to the unoccupied home.
ACT Fire & Rescue has confirmed the fire started in a detached double garage before spreading to the roof space of the house.
Fire crews are now ventilating the property.
Teenager suffers spinal injuries
A teenage girl with suspected spinal injuries was taken to hospital after being cut from the wreckage of a racing car in Majura yesterday. Emergency services were called to the Majura Speedway on Pialligo Avenue, where they found a 16-year-old girl trapped in the car around 11.15am. Firefighters had to cut the protective cage and roll bar of the vehicle to free her. Intensive care paramedics stablised her before rushing the teenager, who was in a serious condition with suspected spinal injuries, to the Canberra Hospital.
Man still in hospital after Chisolm assault
A man remains in hospital with serious head injuries more than a week after he was found unconscious following an assault outside the Chisholm Tavern.
ACT Policing were called to the tavern on Benham Street, where they found the man unconscious around 12.55am on Saturday, October 27.
It is believed he was involved in an altercation out the front of the tavern earlier that night, between midnight and 1am.
He is still being treated for serious head injuries at The Canberra Hospital.
Speeder arrested
A man has been arrested after a police pursuit reached speeds of 120km/hr in Canberra’s inner south yesterday. ACT Policing attempted to stop a white Daihatsu, driven by a 34-year-old man, of no fixed abode, in Stuart Street in Griffith around 11am. The car failed to stop and police pursued the car through Griffith and Narrabundah. The car came to a stop in Nimbin Street in Narrabundah. The driver was apprehended after a short foot chase. He was charged with a range of traffic offences and released to appear before court at a later date.
