There were eight critical incidents involving danger or harm to ACT government school students last year, according to information released under Freedom of Information legislation.

The ACT Education Directorate confirmed the broad nature of eight incidents which included one student experiencing difficulty in water, two violent or serious physical assaults, an accident (the nature of which was not disclosed), a serious medical injury (the nature of which was not disclosed), a lock-down and two electrical fires.
The Australian Education Union is seeking to have critical incidents at non-government schools published this year alongside those taking place in the government system.
AEU ACT branch secretary Glenn Fowler said the figures illustrated that ACT Government schools were safe places. "Two violent incidences among 42,000 children in 12 months shows schools are the safest place you could put your child."
