Eight people have been evacuated from a Defence building after a high pressure gas leak from an underground pipeline near Parkes Way.

Emergency services responded to an automatic fire alarm at 9.54am which led them to the Anzac Park West building on the corner of Anzac Parade in Parkes. An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokeswoman said the gasline ran through to the building's underground car park, and that ActewAGL staff had turned off the gas. An ambulance was at the site but no injuries had been reported.
ACT Fire & Rescue had two fire pumpers, the breathing apparatus van and two commanders on the scene shortly before 11am.
ACT Policing closed one eastbound Parkes Way lane near the site and shut access to Anzac Parade at Parkes Way, but the lane was re-opened and full traffic access returned about 11.30am.
